World Cleanup Day
Littering is a major problem that affects the world and the environment we live in. However, there are those who are taking action to address this issue. On September 18th, 2021, the world celebrated World Cleanup Day, an annual event that brings together millions of people from 180 countries to tackle pollution and plastic waste in public spaces.
One such group that took part in this event was a team of 28 colleagues from Leipzig, Germany. The team ventured out to pick up trash in the Plagwitz area of Leipzig as part of World Cleanup Day. They were accompanied by the Cleanup Team Leipzig, who provided them with the necessary tools and equipment to carry out their mission.

The results of their efforts were remarkable. The team collected 8 big bags of rubbish and 2 bottles filled with cigarette butts. They also found a variety of items, including bottles, clothes, a carpet, and even a refrigerator, that had been carelessly discarded on the streets and green spaces. This was a sad reminder of how much waste we produce as a society and how much more work there is to be done to keep our environment clean.

The team’s efforts demonstrate that everyone can make a difference in their communities by organising cleanup events. By working together, we can make the world a little bit cleaner and create a better future for generations to come.
The team would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the hard-working helpers who took part in the cleanup effort. We look forward to participating in World Cleanup Day 2023, you can learn more here and if you want to see more of our work on last years event, check out our video below.
